Kikoi fabric should always be washed on a cool wash!
‘Made to order’ kaftans and kafteenies are made in Devon or in London by our fabulous outworker, Anne.
Linen is sourced from where ever we can find the best quality and colours.
Our printed and plain cottons are historically from Italy, fabulous prints and colours.

Kikoi kaftans
Kikoi kaftans are available in many different beautiful colours. We try to show what we have available but these may change from time to time, so please do call or email if there is a particular colour you are looking for.
The kaftans are full length with long, bell shaped sleeves. Hugely versatile and comfortable, and they wash on a 30* wash.
Kikoi kafteenies
Kafteenies are kaftans for kids. They are available in sizes 18 months through to 12 years.
They are also available in kikoi or in Italian cotton. The cotton ones are beaded with dragonflies or flowers, and available in turquoise, aqua or fuschia cotton.
The kikoi kafteenies come in a myriad of different colours, and as with all kikoi products we try to give a good indication of what we have in stock but please call if there is a specific colour you are looking for.
Kikoi hoodies
These are available as short or long hoodies, for kids and for adults.
Perfect for covering up on the beach or for wearing around the house to relax in. I wear mine over my wetsuit when I am on the way to the beach for a surf!
Once again colours may vary from time to time, but we have tried to show a range of colours available here. As with all kikoi products, they should be washed at 30*.
Kaftans
Tanga Trading have developed a range of different styles of kaftan. The cotton and linen kaftans are made to order. Each different style is shown here and has is own particular name or is available in a range of different fabrics and colours. What is shown is an example! We are more than happy to send out fabric samples on request. Beaded kaftans are all totally unique and can be embellished as much or as little as you like.
Original kaftan – this is the style used for the kikoi kaftans. A comfortable and elegant shape with bell shaped sleeves.
Swahili kaftan – full length with long sleeves which side splits. The side splits on the kaftan reach the hip and it is lovely worn with a sarong or a pair of trousers underneath.
Lamu kaftan – has a slightly lower neckline and deeper side splits but otherwise is almost identical to the Original
Kaskazi kaftan – available in one size only which will fit a size 8 to size12. It has an empire line seam under the bust, ¾ length sleeves and falls to just below the knees. Lovely to wear with a cosi or with a pair of trousers or sarong underneath.
Beach kaftan – available in one size only which will fit a size 8 to size 14. It comes in printed cotton or in kikoi. Perfect for throwing on over a cosi on the beach when you need a quick ‘cover up’!
Malindi kaftan – fitted with slits to the hip and with very full sleeves which gather in to a bow tie at the wrist. A glamorous kaftan for the evening after a long day on the beach.
Kivuli kaftan – free size. Throw it on and cover up!
Serena Kaftan – a short slightly fitted kaftan dress. Very easy to wear on its own or with jeans or shorts underneath. ¾ length sleeves.
Tamarind kaftan – drawstring under the bust, with long sleeves which flare out.Available in linen or printed cotton and lovely to wear with jeans or on its own with a bikini underneath to cover up on the beach. Very feminine and pretty.
Saafi kaftan – hip length with long ‘pointy sleeves’ – in swiss cotton voile with beaded flowers scattered all over it.
Kusi kaftan – a short kaftan to the hip with very full gathered sleeves, which tie at the wrist. Available in cotton or linen.
Kikapus
Our kikapus come in three sizes. They are bound with foam and kikoi and make perfect grocery bags, toy storage units, laundry baskets etc etc. The list is endless. They are made by two local men in Malindi, Kenya and the money these men earn from the baskets goes substantially towards supporting their families.
Who needs a plastic bag when you can have a beautiful handmade kikapu instead?!
